Provides access to thousands of quality Internet lesson plans, curriculum units and other education resources. Science Master at
Use the Jumpstart section to jump into a new science topic; factsheet gives overview and links. Each gallery in the Learning Galleries section is a set of images related to a science topic. Starfall at
Resources to help beginning readers learn to read. Consists of interactive books and games that contain designated sounds. Movies at the site add even more usefulness. Parents of homeschoolers can download free materials that support the methodology and resources at the site.

Adventure Online at

BrainPOP at
Topics in science, social studies, English, math, arts&music, health, and technology are taught using animated movies with an interactive quiz and follow-up activities. Learning is built upon education movies especially designed for curriculum and age level appropriateness.
The movies star Annie and Moby exploring topics in science, health, writing, reading, social studies and math. Each movie is accompanied by activities, quizzes, and ideas for teaching. Content includes over 30,000 video clips, encyclopedia articles, interactive “brain games”, images, and kid-safe links. Browse by subject or search. Explanations of math problems correlated to the most widely used textbooks. Although this is a fee-based site you can view many free samples and request a 30-day free trial. Subscription costs $9.95 per month or $99 for the year. Members can match videos to a state’s curriculum standards by grade and subject. Provided by Discovery Communications (a school subscribes to United Learning version at $1500 to $2000 annual fee).

English-to-Go -> Homeschoolers at
A subscription provides topical lessons, online exercises, parent tools for teaching, and self study materials. The printable lessons are based on news articles from Reuters® News Agency and are archived. Originally designed by professional teachers for English as a Second Language students; use to improve reading fluency, vocabulary, grammar. Choose an annual subscription at one of three levels from $25 to $150; or a monthly plan.

Homeschool Reading Assessment at
An online series of diagnostic tests that provide a report for homeschool parents to follow as they teach their children reading skills. Various pricing beginning at $20. grades 1 and up (child must already know letters and sounds)

Home School Learning Network at
Curriculum service for offline learning. Various membership plans approximately $16 per month; 3-day free trial. Math Forum Problems of the Week at
Select problems for geometry, algebra, pre-algebra, or math fundamentals. Problems are presented at two week intervals, or use additional problems from the Active Problem Library. Students submit answers then see the solutions with comments. Subcription begins at $15, with a variety of options including guaranteed scoring and access to mentoring. Discussion forum for teacher/parent.

MathDrill at
Drill on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ordering of numbers, fractions, decimals, percent, algebra. Student works interactively through levels; 86 currently available. Includes direct computation and word problem format. Explanations given for answers. Parent can monitor progress even from another computer. Records level, number of problems attempted, score achieved, and time taken. Requires free registration for tracking purposes. Use is first month free, then either $3 for 1 month, $15 for 6 month, or $25 for 1 year. Requires Java and cookies be enabled.

Reading A-Z at
Online reading program consisting of printable books with lessons plans and assessment for an annual subscription fee of $49.95. grades k-5

SkillsTutor at
Fee-based online lessons, not available for all internet browsers. SkillsTutor for grades 2-6 and 7-12 covers basic skills in the core academic subjects. K-2 Learning MileStones is an interactive e-workbook program in reading and math with printable worksheets; audio instructions in English and Spanish. These products have evolved from materials originally produced for Apple II and IBM computers; now a part of Houghton Mifflin.

StudyDog at
Founded in 2002, StudyDog provides online reading lessons in a PreK-K sequence and a Grade 1-2 sequence. Contents are outlined on the site. The first activity upon registration is a placement test to determine the appropriate lessons for the specific child. The complete series is available to low-income families at no cost; $25 to $50 per grade for others.
